Elvis Presley's hair sells for $20k
Monday, October 19, 2009An auction of Elvis Presley memorabilia got bidders all shook up on Sunday, with a clump of the late King of Rock and Roll's hair selling for $US18,300 ($20,000) and one of his shirts going for $US62,000.
More than 150 items that had belonged to the former president of the Elvis Presley fan club went on the block at Chicago's Leslie Hindman auctioneers.
The priciest items included a red suede shirt worn by Presley that sold for $US34,000 and a monogrammed cream-coloured shirt that sold for $US62,000.
Two concert-worn scarves sold for a combined $US2,318. A set of concert-used handkerchiefs went for $US732.
Presley's personal collection of 45rpm seven-inch singles sold for $US3,904.
Wedding and bridal shower photos of Presley and wife Priscilla sold for nearly $US6,000.
The auction house did not provide details about the buyers.

Melbourne: Rihanna is desperately trying to make a fresh statement about herself as she transforms from the girl-next-door to the bold and sexy lass.
Rihanna, who was the centre of much attention at last week’s Paris fashion Week, also made headlines with her topless shoot for the Italian edition of Vogue’s couture supplement in September.
The stunner’s new fashion may be an attempt to pep up her image as a sex symbol but experts believe it shows she is still traumatised due to her assault by ex-flame Chris Brown, earlier this year.
A news website quoted Melbourne-based psychologist Sarah Calleja as saying, "After a trauma people either go into victim mode, where they suffer for a long time, or they thrive.
"Rihanna is a thriver and is taking calculated risks and is on a firmly set path that`s all about doing her own thing."
Rihanna’s new avatar makes her look fiercely independent, a departure from her earlier sweet, teenage image.
However, rumour has it that Rihanna has seduced Justin Timberlake with her new glam look and is responsible for his split with Jessica Biel.
And, Calleja calls it a normal part of her trauma recovery.
Calleja said, "Thrivers can inadvertently develop an insensitivity to others, who then get hurt if they get in the way."
Speaking about Rihanna’s highly provocative and aggressive dressing style, Calleja added: "It`s extreme…. She`s sending a message that she`s the one in control now, and she`s on the right path, but by being so provocative, she`s over-compensating."

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star will also take off her clothes for tips; or at least she used to, according to a few sources.
In 2003, insiders told Fox News Kim spent about three months "making a lot of money" as a stripper at Atlanta’s top gentleman’s establishment, The Cheetah Club. She danced under the stage name "Barbi."
"She didn’t do it for long, but was very popular among the crowd," said a source.
A rep for Zolciak said his client did work at the strip joint, but only "as a cocktail waitress." Kim claims she knows the leak of this false story and is denying it:
"I've never stripped," she said. "[My former rep] is a loose cannon spreading lies. I am not affiliated with him whatsoever."
Ironically, Kim's co-star/former friend/current enemy NeNe Leakes also has a stripping past. But it's one of which she's proud. NeNe has admitted she danced for money in order to earn money for her and her children.
