Britney Spears admits she married Kevin 'for wrong reasons: VIDEO

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Two years after the breakdown of her brief marriage to Kevin Federline, Britney Spears has admitted she wed for the 'wrong reasons'.

The pop star, 26, spoke for the first time about her failed marriage to the dancer-turned-rapper in her upcoming documentary For The Record.

Britney married Kevin in September 2004 - just five months after they met and she gave birth to their first son Sean Preston exactly a year later.

In the documentary, Britney discusses her life follows her turbulent few years and admits she made a mistake by marrying Kevin.

She said: 'I think I married for the wrong reasons.

'Instead of following my heart and doing something that made me really happy, I just did it for the idea of everything.'

When she met first Kevin, his ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson was seven months pregnant with their second child.

Britney's marriage came just nine months after her first marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander, which was annulled after 55 hours.

In November 2006, just two months after the birth of their second child Jayden James, Britney stunned Kevin when she filed for divorce.

Over the next two years, the singer steadily progressed from hard-partying to a session in rehab to shaving her head and was hospitalised twice for psychiatric evaluation earlier this year.

Britney filmed the 90 minute documentary earlier this year as she forged her comeback following a difficult two years.

In the programme, Britney compares her life to a jail sentence as her father Jamie Spears remains the permanent conservator of her affairs.

She said: 'There’s no excitement, there’s no passion.

'I have really good days, and then I have bad days. Even when you go to jail, y'know, there’s the time when you’re gonna get out.

'But in this situation, it’s never ending. It’s just like Groundhog Day every day.

'I think it’s too in control. If I wasn’t under the restraints I’m under, I’d feel so liberated. When I tell them the way I feel, it’s like they hear but they’re really not listening.

'If you do something wrong in your work, you can move on, but I’m having to pay for a long time.

'I never wanted to become one of those prisoner people. I always wanted to feel free.'

'I think I've learnt my lesson now and enough is enough.'

Britney believes she is still being forced to 'pay' for her well-documented meltdown.

For The Record will be screened on Sky 1 on December 1st - a day before Britney's 27th birthday and her sixth studio album Circus is released.
